I recently completed work on a script that allows administrators to use VSS to back up running MS Virtual Server VMs. Use of the script is documented in the article “Backing Up Live Virtual Server VMs.”

The script relies on the VSS SDK and vshadow.exe. The vshadow.exe integration code was borrowed from Jeff Trumbull’s excellent Virtual Server backup script.
