I recently downloaded and tweaked the iSCSI Target appliance posted at the VMTN appliance site. The base appliance is an excellent, light weight iSCSI target host. I made a few modifications based on the requirements of tests I’m running in my lab, which resulted in the following VM configuration:
- Single Bridged NIC (can easily be converted to host only)
- 6 30 GB dynamically expanding virtual hard disks (room to grow!), with 180GB of available storage
- Left default authentication settings (not required)
If you’re interested in using the 180GB iSCSI Target VMware appliance, you can download it here. The readme.txt file details the login information and startup requirements. Basically, all you need to do is start the VM, login, and run ifconfig to get the VM’s IP address (needed for any iSCSI initiator clients). I plan to build a VHD version of this appliance over the next couple of weeks and will keep you posted. If you have any feedback on the appliance or suggestions for future appliances, please post them as comments.
Thanks!
