Virtualization: From the Desktop to the Enterprise

Virtualization is a word that sure has been thrown around a lot lately! In this book, I team up with Erick Halter to get to the bottom of virtualization. To do this, we examine all aspects of virtualization technologies, including:

- VMware and Microsoft Virtual Machines

- Clustering, Storage Virtualization, and Distributed File Systems

We cover virtualization from both the Windows and Linux perspectives, with significant coverage of the leading virtual machine applications from both VMware and Microsoft. With over 7 combined years of virtualization experience, Erick and I share plenty of cool how-to’s on virtualization and virtual machines, including:

- Building Windows and Linux VM clusters (including iSCSI clusters!)

- VM backup and recovery

- Scripted VM Management

- Deploying DFS on Samba

Don’t just take my work for it. Read the expert reviews at:

Troubleshooting Microsoft Technologies

Deemed “The Ultimate Administrator’s Repair Manual,” this book gives you a solid overview of the different Microsoft technologies and then details the process for resolving and repairing problems with each technology. Here’s a sample of what’s included:

- Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP

- Active Directory, DNS, WINS, DHCP, and RRAS

The book also includes a handy chapter on Microsoft Office troubleshooting.

Windows Server 2003 Deployment Kit

No I did not write the entire deployment kit, but I did write the “Storage Planning” chapter! The deployment kit is a reference that belongs on every administrator’s bookshelf. If you want to deploy W2K3 solutions, you need this reference. Not ready to buy the kit? No problem! My Storage Planning chapter can be viewed online.

Windows 2000 Enterprise Storage Solutions

In this book, Chris again teams up with Peter Bruzzese to deliver the most comprehensive storage book to date. Pick up a copy for information on:

- Storage Area Networks (SANs) and Network Attached Storage (NAS)

- RAID

- Clustering

- Backup and Recovery Gotchas

Looking for a sample. Read Chapter 4, “Working with Removable Storage Manager” at Sybex.com.

Virtualization: From the Desktop to the Enterprise

Is this book suggested for a non-technical account manager? If not, what do you suggest?

Are you on Twitter, or is there any other way to follow your updates?

    Thanks! Shannon

    Hi Shannon,

The introductory chapters will probably be helpful for the non-techy, while the latter chapters are highly technical. You may want to also check out “Virtualization: A Beginners Guide” (Ruest and Ruest) as it is more up-to-date. My book was published in 2005 and is a bookasaurus by today’s standards.

And yes I’m also on twitter (cswolf).
